Agricultural and Financial Systems’ Adaptation to Climate Change

Toronto Centre and MEDA are co-hosting a virtual panel session to mark Canada's International Development Week. Farmers in emerging markets and low-income countries face many barriers to increasing food production, such as access to finance, farm inputs, and fair returns, along with increasing risks from climate change. Meanwhile, policymakers and standard setters worldwide are enacting new regulations and reporting standards for sustainability and climate-related disclosures.

The panel will discuss the challenges and opportunities countries face in transitioning to more sustainable and resilient food systems. Senior experts from the Philippines, Honduras and Costa Rica will share their experiences and lessons learned in environmental adaptation, from agricultural production to financial supervision practices.

Panelists:

Tomás Soley, Superintendent, General Superintendence of Insurance of Costa Rica (SUGESE)

Nadia Guerch, Senior Regional Director for Latin America, Eastern Europe and Asia Pacific (LEAP), MEDA

Omoneka Oyier, Director, Business Value Creation, MEDA

Moderator: Carl Hiralal, Insurance and Pensions Advisory Board, Toronto Centre
