How have you engaged with CAFIID?
As a member of CAFIID’s Impact Measurement and Management (IMM) Community of Practice, I've been enjoying the monthly sessions to learn from peers and workshop practical IMM challenges. We often navigate challenging areas such as how to embed measurement into investment decision-making, navigate data gaps, and strengthen verification and due diligence in real-world contexts.
I also support content creation for CAFIID’s LinkedIn page and contribute to events programming through the Thought Leadership Committee (TLC). It's been a great experience translating learnings into actionable takeaways for the broader CAFIID community.
Plus, CAFIID's events are a great way to network with fellow impact professionals!
How has CAFIID supported your professional journey and growth?
CAFIID helped me escape my “carbon tunnel vision” by consistently widening the lens and connecting climate outcomes to the broader realities of impact investing across many geographies. One standout example was learning about CAFIID’s 2025 State of the Sector report, which highlights important thematic priorities and where the capital is flowing. Most importantly, CAFIID has strengthened my ability to communicate impact with credibility and helped me gain powerful insights about the Canadian impact landscape.
Can you share a meaningful connection or key lesson learned through CAFIID?
Impact measurement in Canada is becoming a core management practice and a decision-making tool as opposed to a “reporting add-on”. Based on my experiences in CAFIID's IMM Community of Practice, when investors treat IMM as part of their core practice, it becomes more rigorous, more comparable, and more useful.
What motivates you to stay involved with CAFIID?
It’s CAFIID's amazing community. As someone working for a US-based nonprofit focused on catalytic investing for early-stage climate solutions and recently graduating from a MEnvSc program at the University of Toronto, I was craving a Canadian “home base” of peers doing similar purpose-driven work. CAFIID has been exactly that: a super welcoming, knowledgeable, and practical space that's purpose-built for shared learning and collaboration.
What advice would you give others to support their professional growth in impact investing?
Start by listening. Find your community, connect with folks, and hear about their experiences so you can make more informed choices about your own career pathway. At the same time, give back to your community by sharing what you learn or volunteering your time. CAFIID's membership, with access to a mentorship program and CoPs, can be a great place to start.
