Through the Pandemic and Beyond

2020

The COVID-19 pandemic has posed significant challenges for impact investors in Canada, transforming how they approach resilience and adaptability within their portfolios. Our latest report delves into the effects of the pandemic on Canadian impact investors, their investees, and the broader impact investing landscape. Conducted in May 2020, CAFIID's survey reveals that over half of respondents experienced negative impacts on their organizations, with 94 percent noting adverse effects on their investees. Reduced demand, insufficient working capital, and supply chain disruptions are just a few of the hurdles faced by emerging and frontier market investees.

As we navigate these turbulent times, the report highlights the urgent need for liquidity, risk-tolerant capital, and unprecedented global cooperation among investors. Emergency liquidity facilities, patient capital, concessional finance, technical assistance, and collaboration are essential for safeguarding the resilience of investees and their portfolios.
