What impact has your recent work led to that you are most proud of?
Momentus Global has been working in Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean and Canada to offer innovative approaches to development finance and strengthen impact and outcomes. We recently worked on a strategy with an African development finance institution, aimed at enhancing capacities for sustainable technical assistance investments across its members states. This will allow the organization to be a more effective intermediary for donors and development partners across the region, increasing bankability for projects and unlocking capital against their priorities. We are working on a similar project assessing capacities and tools to increase impact specifically in rural financing today and into the future. We are proud to be advising an Indigenous-led organization in Canada on how to design and benefit from tools used through international development banks to create domestic economic and social gains for local communities.
What challenges and barriers are you working on addressing?
Momentus Global is dedicated to highlighting National Development Banks (NDBs) and Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) and their pivotal role in advancing progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Almost every country has an NDB that acts as a hub between government ministries, international agencies, the private sector, commercial banks, local businesses, and project sponsors. This pivotal role is not often maximized. NDBs also foster innovation and economic diversification, enhance financial inclusion, promote environmental sustainability, and mobilize climate and SDG finance.
To enhance the understanding across the development finance ecosystem, Momentus Global has distilled 20 years of experience into a Health Diagnostic Tool (HDT). The NDBs can benchmark their capacity across seven distinct dimensions: policy, corporate governance, development impact, operational performance, financial performance, sustainability and gender mainstreaming – allowing donors, investors and the NDBs themselves to realize the opportunity for the asset. This is core to who we are a Momentus Global and we see local, national, regional and multilateral partners capitalizing more on the potential of NDBs to reach their goals.
What is your call to action for our membership?
CAFIID members can help us in a couple of ways:
Understand that NDBs are excellent partners in mobilizing capital and impact against the SDGs and help promote this recognition across the development finance ecosystem.
Help us connect with talented change makers, whether working independently, in organizations or in local, regional and multilateral DFIs to help us increase our impact, along with other CAFIID members, in increasing impact and creating an equitable world.
When are you looking forward to in the coming months?
Momentus Global is in a period of growth and change. Our team is growing, and we wanted to highlight two women who are supporting impact.
One of our team members, Georgina Liswaniso, is a Gender Expert and has contributed on important projects including the development of a Gender Responsive Financial Strategy for the Government of Namibia. She also manages an institutional Gender Strengthening project that aims to improve the capacities of DFIs to effectively cater to the needs of women-led businesses.
We are also excited to announce that Nzwaki Adonisi has joined our team from her home in Capetown, South Africa. She brings more than 15 years of experience working in the impact, systems-change, development and finance sectors. She contributed to the design of several crucial strategies including KTN’s Global Alliance Africa Place-Based Innovation Strategy and a pan-African Distributed Renewable Energy program.
We are proud of everyone on our team and invite you to reach out to get to know us better.
