Dr. Ssewanyana Derrick is a Public Health professional and holds a PhD in Adolescent & Public Health studies from Utrecht University, Netherlands. His areas of interest are in health and social research, programs, policy and consultancy work. He hasworked for 2 years as aPost-Doctoral research fellow at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto and at the Alliance for Human Development (AHD) at the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute in Canada where he conducts epidemiological and social public health research on early childhood development; maternal, child and adolescent health; and health behavior. Derrick has actively contributed to a number of community health projects, such as an implementation research project on early childhood development (ECD) in Nairobi’s informal settlements. He also previously worked as a Policy fellow on a multi-country project on Evidence Informed Decision-Making (EIDM) in Kenya, Uganda and Malawi’s ministries of health. He has researched and supported programs in the areas of pediatric HIV in rural Kenya, on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene in Uganda, worked as a consultant on adversity in Adolescence (Aga Khan University and PORTICUS), interned in Mental Health and Substance management at the WHO in Geneva. He had also supported projects in primary healthcare in humanitarian settings. Derrick is currently open to work within the fields of research, programs and policy.
